Most countries bestow the United Nations Ribbon for  six months of duty where any action in which a member of the military participated in a joint U.N. activity. The medal is ranked in militaries and police forces as a service medal.
In the United States, servicemembers who are awarded more than one medal/ribbon issued by the United Nations are encouraged to wear only one, specfically the standard United Nations Medal/Ribbon
